Prostate cancer is a disease that usually occurs in men over 50 years of age, but recently there has been a trend towards “rejuvenation” of prostate cancer. About 5% of patients were operated on at the age of 40-50 years. For the early detection of prostate cancer, an annual blood test for the content of prostate-specific antigen, PSA, is very important. An increase in the level of this marker may be caused by the presence of prostate cancer.
The most effective treatment for prostate cancer is robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy using the Da Vinci robotic system.
Robotic surgery using the Da Vinci system provides patients with significant benefits due to faster postoperative recovery, as it allows maximum preservation of the vessels and nerves that ensure important functions. The most important of these are the preservation of continence and erectile function (preservation of erection).
That is exactly why 90% of all radical prostatectomy in the world is performed using the Da Vinci robotic systems.
We complement robot-assisted prostatectomy with a method developed and implemented jointly with Austrian colleagues for the removal of lymph nodes using the fluorescent dye – indocyanine green. This allows you to accurately identify the sentinel lymph nodes, where the prostate tumor first metastasizes, as well as visualize the neurovascular bundles, whose preservation is important for maintaining potency.
Our IRIMI Group medical team works on the basis of the Medical Plaza clinic under the guidance of Professor R.M. Molchanov, who has many years of experience with this complex surgical technique: with an open method – since 2004, with a laparoscopic method – since 2010, and more recently with a robot-assisted method. The use of the Da Vinci robotic system allows you to combine the advantages of laparoscopy with a delicate and microscopically precise effect on tissues, which significantly increases the functional effect of the operation.
