The da Vinci robotic surgical system is an advanced technology in the field of surgery. It has been actively and successfully used all over the world for 15 years, and now the patients of our clinic can also appreciate its benefits.

Robotic systems are an extension to the physical capabilities of the surgeon, providing him with additional degrees of freedom necessary to access parts of the body that would be limited if a conventional laparoscope or the surgeon’s hand is used. In addition, the robotic system eliminates the tremor of the surgeon’s hands during long-term operations and significantly improves the visualization of the surgical field during the operation.

Due to these advantages, the use of a robotic system reduces the time of surgical intervention and significantly improves organ preservation and quality of life during the postoperative period.

It should be noted that the Da Vinci robot does not perform operations on its own.

When using such a system, the surgeon operates from a console. He/She sees a 3D image at ten to fifteen times magnification and controls the robot by means of manipulators that transmit minimal movements of his fingers to the instruments. The robot has four operational ‘limbs’, and all of them have almost 360º mobility.

In addition, the Da Vinci manipulators have 7 planes of motion, which allows the surgeon to preserve nerve fibers and blood vessels with maximum accuracy. For men, this allows to save erectile function and urinary retention; for women – to maintain normal functions of the pelvic organs, sensitivity, secretory function of the glands of the vagina, bladder innervation. During operations on the intestines, it allows to save the functions of the external and internal sphincter of the rectum. The surgeon-controlled robot is a tool that greatly increases doctor’s capabilities, “improves” his/her vision (precision), accuracy of movements (preservation of the finest anatomical structures) and increases the bending angle of the working part of the instrument (the ability to work in hard-to-reach anatomical areas).

We have many years’ experience of mastering and improving surgical skills in open and laparoscopic surgery. The transition to robot-assisted surgery in our clinic was preceded by an extensive period of training and internships for surgeons in European training centers and clinics. Today, our surgeons perform complex surgical interventions using the Da Vinci System in five surgical areas: urology, gynecology, general surgery, oncosurgery, as well as reconstructive surgery and mammology.
